I have been looking everywhere for this, and I still havent found a direct answer. I know that you have to tan before a show because darker skin shows more muscle definition. I got that, however, how does this apply to people who have dark skin already? Do we still spray? Do we use "posing oil"?
Im so confused..lol I have thought about buying some of this Jan Tan stuff and giving it try (making sure I have ample time in the house to let it wear off just in case of a disaster...haha) . Is this a good idea, or should I just save my money?
I know a couple of guys that compete and they still apply tanner, only 1-2 coats then oil. Give it a try before your show and see how it looks...thats the only way to really know what YOU need to do.

btw...they are MUCH darker than you.
thanks girl! I guess im buying that Jan Tan!! How did you react when you first saw yourself with that "stage tan"..lol ..just wondering..will I be in for a big shock when I put mine on??
I am REALLY pale....so even after just one coat I was like "WTF???" and my boyfriend was cracking up!! But even with the one coat, I was impressed with how much better my body looked. By show time I had 4 coats on though but I didnt have any make up on (I was getting it done before pre-judging) so I looked CRAZY walking around with 'white face'

hahah!!!
i always wondered about the coats and the face makeup. Do you put the coats on right after each other, or is the tanning process done over the course of days? Also, with the face makeup, do you wear foundation to match the tan? how does that work?..lol..lemme know if im asking too many questions..i tend to talk alot...lol
I did my final shave thursday night and applied my first coat. Then I did 3 coats on friday...morning, noon and night. On saturday morning I just did a little touching up from some sheet/finger prints from sleeping LOL!! I applied it up to my jaw line and left my face completely clean. I had the makeup artist at my show do my make-up, so my face has to be clean. She matches the make up to go with the suit color as well as matching the tan. A lot of girls do their own makeup, I dont know how they match it to their tan BUT I dont want to worry about screwing it up so I think its worth the money to have it done.
Dont worry about asking questions girl...thats how we all learn!!!
lol..my goodness..that sounds like ALOT of tanner..but I hear that light is ridiculous bright..lol. How much is a make-up artist? And how long does it take for all that tan to come off?..lol..is it washable since it can run if it gets wet?
You will be surprised at how many coats you will need. I went to a professional airbrush artist who works with all the shows. It was a bit pricey, but worth it since I was done in 30 minutes instead of 2-3 days and 7 coats. I had two coats the night before and one the day of. I was super dark.
I would think that you want at least 3 coats if you do it yourself.
Make-up goes on after the tanning, but don't tan your face. Bring up the make-up to match your tan, but a shade lighter than your body.
You can apply the tanner to an inconspicuous spot and then go to the make-up counter to match.
My tan washed completely off after about 11 days. You can scrub it off with an exfoliator though. Jan Tana makes a kit that you can buy.
At 1st I didnt get it either but after doing 12 shows the tan really helps...makes you look one even tone and your muscles are more defined. Ive used Protan and Jan Tana both are great. The tanner normal has a good eye and can tell you how many coats you would need. I normally do o1 or 2 and then top it off w/ DreamTan (its like a lotion but kinda messy) but has bronze chips in it and makes you look a golden brown like a trophy...HOTTT!!
