I think part of it too and some of the research I am in shows most of us actually have some reason behind it - and a lot of times this is the same reason many of us are excellent at most things we do - we all have tendencies towards perfection but for most of us this can lead to an obsession. My mother always told me I was perfect but she was never happy with her weight - she always dieted and wanted to be thinner... This had an impact.

Cait - yes EDNOS isn't really recognized. We as a society focus on a certain look rather than a healthy balance. Let's be honest the constant figure competition is not a healthy balance - sure it can be but I think for very good reason people who have found the best balance don't compete all the time - or they stay relatively close to their weight for show all the time...

After going through bulimia and still suffering with the effects I have a hard time being all or nothing - I have a hard time being balanced. I may always have it but slowly letting my body recover and get back to a good balance will actually be a first for me... The first time I threw up I was 15... I still haven't entirely kicked the habit.

I think its more than what you say TO a child, its what you say when you're AROUND a child. I remember last X-mas, I ate like a cow (and loved every second!) but my belly was so bloated and it was HUGE...I was jokingly rubbing it and showing Chris 'my fat belly'...then she started talking about her 'fat belly'...Then there was this one time my grandmom offered me junk food and I made a comment about how I dont want the shit in my body...blah, blah, blah...needless to say, my neice followed suit. So even though I wasnt talking directly to her, so still picked up on what was said. Now when I dont want junk and she askes me why, I make it a point to tell her I already ate and my tummy is full

Right on Annie...I think the perfectionist part of my personalility is what causes many of my problems. Sometimes finding a way to live a balanced like seems like it can be so far out of reach.
