I'm still trying to figure out the forums here, so my apologies if this has been talked about somewhere. I did do a search but couldn't find any mention of almond milk in any of the search results.
Anyway...what do you ladies think about it? I have been using the plain, unsweetened kind. 40cal for a 1 cup serving, 0g sugar, 1g protein, 2g carbs. To me it doesn't really have any significant nutritional value but I mix it with my protein powder instead of water. Makes it taste SOOOO much better!
Sometimes if I need breakfast on the run, I'll mix almond milk, egg whites, ground flax & frozen berries in my magic bullet for a quick smoothie.
Or sometimes for PWO, I'll have almond milk, oatmeal, protein powder & berries (& any glutamine or BCAA I need).
Any opinions? Would you use this through contest prep or only off season? maybe not at all?
I see nothing wrong with plain almond milk, as long as it fits in your macros. I've had clients use it up until the 6-4 week out mark, but I do like to cut out all sources of extra, "unnecessary" calories over the last month or so.
where do you buy this from and how is it packaged. I would like to try it but havent seen it available where I live.
I know I don't live in the same area as you. But I usually find mine in the same area as the rice milk, it's not kept cold in most stores I visit. I usually do all my shopping at super target occasionally at Whole Foods or the Fresh Market.
Thanks Olesya! That's what I was hoping, I really dislike mixing protein with water.
Broadys- the stuff I buy is make by Blue Diamond Growers, it's called Almond Breeze. It comes in a tetra type carton like juice. I find it in my normal grocery store in the dairy section. Usually next to the milk with the non-dairy beverages. They sell it flavored as well, vanilla & chocolate & sweetened but that adds ALOT of extra calories. I think the chocolate is 140cals per serving. So I prefer the plain unflavored, unsweetened as I don't drink it alone, just blend it to add creaminess. I quite like it as the flavor is very subtle. Hope this helps
omg almond milk is my savior! I'm drinking it right now and i'm 2 days out from my competition!
I use it in shakes and most of all in my coffee. I heat up 1/2 cup and mix that in a blender when it's hot with cocoa and stevia until frothy - then add this to black coffee. SOOO good!
I either use the unsweetned Vanilla (40cals/cup) or they now have unsweetned chocolate (45 cals/cup)
I just which there was a brand that used organic almonds that didn't have sugar - the only brand I found that's organic has sugar in it - cane sugar but still. I use almond breeze too.

This tastes EXCELLENT. I blended it with protein powder, ice and a bit of water... great protein and good fat combo!!!
