Yes, an oxymoron..lol..I know..but I am currently looking into homemade protein bars and some call for stevia, splenda, honey, ect. I have also heard about sucanat (which i found stands for "Sugar Cane Natural", and apparently its the purest form). What would be the best choice here? I dont want to halt my progress over sugar..lol..

If it's sugar cane it's still sugar... Splenda, honey, sweet 'n' low, stevia those all have minimal carbs and calories. I'd worry about the macronutrient content first (read the labels- the ones with the lowest counts of everything is "better") then what taste you'd rather have.

I prefer Stevia, it's very low-cal and more natural so it won't mess with your bod the way some artificial sweeteners do. Although expensive, it is very potent, you do not need to use much. Just be aware that substiting lo/no cal sweeteners can affect the outcome when baking (texture, consistancy), and some are not heat stable. As long as you're ok with that, it is a great way to enjoy a treat without wrecking your diet.

I love Stevia too, but it does tend to not act the same way sugar does when heated. If you end up using it in your recipes, please let us know how it goes!
