I was just wondering everyone's thoughts on a keto diet (low carb). I have been on it for about 4 weeks but I feel somewhat bloated sometimes. I also feel very restricted on what I can eat since I have to keep my carbs at 26 grams or below. I'm starting to wonder if I should just incorporate the principals based on the "Eat Clean Diet" by Tosca Reno. It is bothering me that I basically have to cut out entire food groups on my keto diet. I mean shouldn't you be able to eat lots of veggies?? If you wouldn't mind including what kind of diet you are currently following and how it is working for you that would be awesome!! I really value all you ladies opinions and would like some honest opinions on a keto diet... To do or not to do....
I am on a keto diet as well.
I find these are the diets that make me lose weight. If I eat carbs there is never any weight loss which is fine for when I am at my goal weight. But, for now keto it is.
That's the thing with keto diets, they are very restrictive. If you can still lose weight by adding in some carbs, say for breakfast and post work out then go for it. But, I can't so I don't.
If you are like me, and have to do the keto thing then you have to make restriction work for you.
Remember, no one said this was easy. And there are going to be days where it down right sucks. But once you hit your goal then in come the carbs.
Most keto diets have a refeed day ( mine is once every two weeks) do you get one? If not I suggest adding one. It may keep you ontrack and on the diet.

I guess what bothers me is that I cannot eat any fruit or hardly any veggies. This doesn't seem natural to me. I love veggies! I do get one cheat meal a week where my trainer wants me to try to get in at least 300 grams of carbs that day. Talk about MASSIVE BLOAT!! PUFFERFISH!! I'm going to just have to really sit down and think about this. It's a hard decision! Thansk for your input! I really appreicate it!

I eat all kinds of veggies and I count them towards my carb intake. Just measure measure measure!
Do you know how far a 1/4 of a pepper can go...chop chop chop.
and cucumbers MMMMMMMMMMMM
and did you know that zuchinni is virtually carb free..I promise like 1 gram, if that! for a lot!
I take a baby zucc. chop it up, pan fry it with seasoning and make it a side dish
and the bloat is worth those carbs, Peach. You need them to make your diet work. It won't work without them.
I usually clock in between 26-30 grams of carbs a day.
Counting carbs in all veggies.
The only thing I do count and limit on keto is tomatoes, carrots, peas and corn. I have very little to none of these veggies.
But if you feel like you are about to break talk to your trainer and find out what works for you.
Like I said carbs and me are not weight loss friends. But there are girls who eat carbs everyday of their pre-contest diets and look amazing...and LEAN!!

What does your meal plan look like? Just curious... Mine is:
SweetPeach...I have done Keto. If you choose to do it, you can definitely get a lot of veg in there without going over 26 grams/carbs...IF you're not counting fiber (which I didn't). Let me see if I can pull up a day from fitday that was keto!

I can't get it to work.
Let's see...
I had:
10 oz romaine
4.5 oz cucumber with peel
2 oz cauliflower
2 oz tomato
9 oz spinach
6 oz broccoli
3 oz red bell
2 oz mixed salad greens
For a total of 55 carbs, minus 22 fiber = 33 carbs.
So...pretty close to 26, and LOTS of veg!

but one of the meals I had was:
3oz ground beef patty
with 1/2cup spinach
1 cup cucumber
1/2 cup brocoli
I made my own dressing
1tbsp evoo, red wine vinegar, chopped garlic, salt and pepper.
That's a good example Booty.
And remember Peach..you never spend your life on Keto. It is a short term diet.
Those fruits and complex carbs will be back very shortly
maybe a little less peanutbutter and more veggies.
pb carries more carbs than most vegtables.
plus get a nice balance of fats...start adding some evoo, walnuts. small amounts of avocado ( yup I eat this as well on my keto diet!)
I'm going to come straight out here and say for me - Keto has had long term negative effects on my body. If you keep doing it I would almost say it is a MUST to get a clearance from a doctor before starting to check your current blood levels. Maybe some people oxidize fats better and other carbs better but if I had known now back then I wouldn't have done it at all.
Try "Crack the Fat Loss Code" by Wendy Chant. You eat balanced meals, have carbs like oats, sweet potatoes, ezekiel bread, loads of veggies and proteins and good fat.
They are cycled in different amounts on different days... check it out... I have converted a few chicks on here!!

I have done a keto diet. I did get my leanest ever but the rebound was horrible! I'd rather have a diet full of veggies than do the chicken and cheese diet as I called it.

Good luck to you!
What do you think caused the rebound? The last time I had a bad rebound it was because the diet I had been on was so emotionally/mentally taxing and I just went crazy bingeing on everything in sight. Did you just return to what would normally be a manitenance level or did you go overboard. I hope you don't take this question the wrong way, I am just genuinely curious to find out if I should expect a rebound if I go to maintenance intake and balanced meals after the diet.
