Default Carb cycling? Salad...to count or not to count?

Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off with $20 Purchase.

I have recently started carb cycling working each day around my training.

2x Low carb rest day/ steady state cardio day
2x High carb legs day / sprints day
3 x Mod carb

So far I am loving it, makes total sense to have higher carbs on days when your body can utilise them better.

My question is this....should I count my salad as a carb?
I tend to have protein/salad with pumpkin as starch carb in eve.
I have not up until now counted the salad as carbs, but I do count the cals in my daily allowance.

It is a LARGE salad in the evening consisting of lettuce, cucumber, toms, red onion & celery.
If I have side salad with my lunch you could be talking total 150 cals for both in one day?

Sounds a simple one but I just wondered if you ladies could chime in on what works best for you, or what would be your recommendation?

I have counted all my other carbs of course....Oats, sweet potato, pumpkin, yams, my clean oat cookies etc.....

Thanks ladies, any help as always gratefully received.

The only time I count veggies as carbs is during contest prep. If you are eating a couple slices of tomatoes or onions in your salad its not worth the pain of counting. It won't break your diet either. My motto is just to keep is simple.

I agree with Kristine on the tomatos and onion. Those a pretty high sugar content for a veggie

Thanks K,BB,Nic & Tal,

Your input very much appreciated, when you try to research these things online it is a mind field!

Here is where I get my straight talking answers.

I have Tom Venuto's book winging it's way to me, so I am excited to read that.

Thanks again, I am happy that I have more space for 'real carbs'.

As I am such a shortie with not a huge amount of pounds to lose (altho there is enough for sure Grrr!) particularly on LC days it would have left me little numbers left to play with! However I want to also get it right!

Thanks Ladies :-)

He really lays things out so simple...After years of destructive dieting, reading his books and blogs set off so many light bulbs in my head
