Alright ladies here is my situation...
When my divorce was finalized almost 4 years ago my ex was ordered to pay for the motorcycle that I co-signed for...that he let get repossed in the divorce process. Anyhow the judgement goes to him. Turns out it is this whole big mess and they are trying to nail him for insuarance fraud (he tried to say the bike was stolen and they found it in a chop shop but things didn't match up) and so because of this and the companies wanting their money, when they couldn't get him they came after me. Well the only number they had for me was an old one from when I lived with my grandmother. She gets this call from teh collection agent saying that they were tired of going around in circles and if it wasn't paid in full that they were going to turn it over to the police and let them go forward with the insurance fraud prosecution. Grandma freaks out and pays them right then and there without giving me a chance to talk to them at all.
We go BACK to court to have the asshole ex's wages garnished and he doesn't show. And he got fired from his job and now we can't find him. I have since paid my grandmother back and I am out $8000.00 because he is an asshole. I know his parents still live in their house but I dont' know where to find him or how to find out where he works.
So my question is can anyone help me figure out how to find a place of employment or address things like that? I still remember his social security number and his birthday and all that...I really was hoping not to have to pay a shitton of money to find this stuff out. I suppose I could just have it attached to what he owes but seeing as how the f'er never could keep a job that may or may not be helpful.
Thanks in advance everyone!!

Here is my two cents...I am in Canada so things might be different but I doubt it.

You do not have access to any of his information because of privacy acts. If you find out from friends of friends that is different but you cannot go to police/government and get that info.

In regards to the $8000, sorry but you are out of luck. The mistake, although the intentions were good, was when your grama paid the money to the collection agency. Prior to paying for that bill she did not enter into a contract with your ex where he agreed to repay the money. There is no legal binding document which requires him to pay back the money. This is a civil matter and your best course of action is to seek legal aid. With that being said, I highly doubt you will see that money again. Again he did not promise to re pay any money and it would be considered a gift.

Sorry for the bad news...that is a huge blow to the bank. I am sure you know that the collection agency had no ground to make you pay back the money either. It was a judges order that the bike became the propery of your ex and that would include all payments and insurance matters.

Yeah I knew that all we had to do was give the agency a copy of the judgement but ugghh if only she would have called me or given them my number!! Balls this sucks. When we went back to court the judge actually did create an order for him to repay the money that we had paid...but then he got fired from the job they new about and we can't find him.

Ugh. This is tough. Love your grandma for trying to save you, but she screwed you. Collection agencies will say anything and everything to get money from you. The thing is, they bought that money for pennies on the dollar after the debtor wrote it off.

That is a moot point....

You have to ask yourself how much you need this stress? Yes, believe me. I understand how much money $8000 is. But, sometimes it might just be worth getting the idiot out of your life for good. He is NOT going to pay you back. He DOES not have the money, nor the care to do so.

Is it less stress having lost the $8000 or less stress spending your life searching for him for a resolve that will likely not fall in your favor?
