This is a discussion on Real Sports on FBB within the Gossip and Chit Chat forums,----- Real Sports on HBO did a segment on Female Bodybuilding...Thought I'd post the video for those of you that dont ...
I actually think it is pretty accurate in speaking about the dark side of bodybuilding. There are a lot of negative aspects of the sport that people don't like to talk about.

What portion did you find sterotypical Nic?
EVERY show I see on FBB is about the drugs and the fetish aspect...is it real? Yes..however there are many women that compete NATURALLY and have families, work 9-5 jobs etc..Live a healthy and balanced life, but that type of show wouldnt generate ratings so its never covered. I get annoyed that ALL you see is the negative/dark side, which just reinforces why people think all women that train must do drugs, train 4hrs a day and sell their bodies...which is not the case. I just wish there would be more positive coverage of the sport...
All of these shows interview Collette and Lauren. So, yes they all portray the same story.
BTW, I don't see a difference in Brian Moss' hair in Playgirl and now, haha. Just sayin'.
Oh, and I am not into that look at all, but damn, Zoa is gorgeous. Something about her.

Nic, I agree with both sides. These shows only portray the pro bb'ers, so yes it does make it seem that all women who "body build" are like that. I think that is why they get the same girls on all the shows. Because they are willing to portray the sport as such.
I see your point. Body building is not just about "bigarexia". There are so many sides of it. We are body builders, but when I see that I don't want to associate myself with it.
However, I know a few national and pro female bb'ers. They are like that to the T. One is married with a family, so probably not the sex part (I dunno). But the others are single and very into selling themselves. Heck I have known married pro bb'ers who run fetish sites.
Exactly Kel...Once I saw Colette and Lauren, I thought 'here we go..same ol same ol'. Personally, I dont care what other people do...Hell, I think prostitution should be legal so live and let live but I'm tired of any coverage this sport gets being about the negative. If you've seen one of their interviews, then you've seen them all.
I LOVE Bodybuilding and this sport has given me nothing but positives, I just wish other people would get to see that side. But, like I said...Seeing the woman that works full time, has a family and also happens to compete isnt exactly a ratings grabber

Well, it's all about sensationalization. That is a very long word. Just like now baseball is all about steroids. Because that is what makes it interesting. I guess that is what we have evolved into.

I think that could be said about the media in general. Rarely do the top networks air feel good stories, people are just not interested....they love the drama.
Yes there are two sides to bodybuilding, natural and not. I think that it is a shame that natural BB does not get the same about of covrage as the IFBB. I am sure if it did there would be a lot more feel good stories out there.
