As I have mentioned countless times in my journal...I have really shitty skin. Especially when my diet is off..too much dairy, sweets, grease and too many AS...my skin will break out something feirce. Now, my face has cleared up since my diet has been on point but now I have that yucky un-even skin tone and dark marks from the breakouts...Money is tight, so I cant afford anything that requires a doc ect..Does anyone know of an OTC product that will help even out my skintone and help minimize the appearance of scars???
Hmm...I have the same problem. Blotchy uneven skin, especially this time of year.
I find what works for me, and it's nothing to drastic is a good exfoliant and a good moisturize. The unevenness might be due to dry and dead skin building up and blocking pores.
I usually use Benefit products like Honey Snap out of it morning scrub and Dear, John moisturizer because it is super thick.
But when money is tight I go for the best drugstore stand by's. Like St. Ives Apricot scrub ( tried and true!) and Neutragena Ultra Intense Day time moisturinzer with spf 15.
Also, if you find that you need something more intense like microderm abrassion or peels. I just saw on the View this morning that Oil of Olay products ( the ones that mimic those proceedures...Revitalist I think the line is called) rival a lot of Cosmetic procedures done in a doc's office....and it was a DERM. DOCTOR saying this!!! She said they are really good quality, and do the job if you are on a budget! I would give those a try too.

Thanks Aly! I already use St. Ives religiously, it the best exfoliant I've ever used...but its not something basic face wash and exfoliating can fix, I definitely need a more intense approach. I would LOVE to get a peel, but that just isnt going to happen anytime soon. Thanks for the Revitalist tip..I will check it out!

You might look into an AHA product - Paula's Choice makes some nice ones that are pH-balanced and not too pricey for what they contain:

The 8% AHA is a chemical exfoliant that works on the skin's surface, the BHAs penetrate into the pores and exfoliate there.
You can order sample sizes of their products so you can give them a try before committing - I was very satisfied with the results I got, even though they were working against a terrible diet, lol.
For further explanation...the AHA used in the product is glycolic acid - the same as in a glycolic acid peel, but at a lower concentration. It is less of an instant "wow, I got a peel, bam, instant results!" and more of a "ah, after a few weeks I am noticing a ton of improvement!" And, you know, affordable. :-)
(Gah, my link is giving me problems...I hope you can see it!)
Sorry to hear about the skin troubles, girl. I know how annoying those can be!
I know you said that your budget is a consideration, but I HIGHLY recommend looking into getting a Clarisonic brush. Your skin will improve immensely over just a month or so, and keep on getting better. If you can't afford regular facials, then the best thing you can do is give them to yourself -- and this thing will cost you MUCH less than regular facials or peels, yet give you similar results overtime.
You can just google it to find hundreds of positive reviews. And if you decide to buy it, the cheapest place to get it is through here: LINK, then use the code MUA20 at checkout for 20% off. They'll ship for free, too.
There are other products I can recommend, but I'd need to know more about your skin. If you'd like, just give me more details. Is it oily/dry/peeling/dehydrated/acneic/pore size/blackheads/lines, etc.

Thanks O! As nice as that would be, its WAY out of my price range
As far as my skin goes...Its a whole lot of different things! Dry, but gets oily as the day goes on. Large pores on nose and cheeks. Usually my pimples are just a small white head but if something in my diet is off, I get the hard/red/painful cystic type acne...See, I'm a mess

I checked out that link...I'm definitely going to get some sample sized stuff! THANKS SO MUCH!!!
You're welcome! I hope something works for you...I know how frustrating skin can be - I've been locked in battle with mine for such a long time. :-/ Paula's Choice has really good info on her site about how to use the products, lots of reviews to read through, and MUA also has informative reviews if you search either "BHA" or "alpha hydroxy."
The one thing that has evened up my skin tone the most is one of the cheapest things on earth. Baking soda. I exfoliate with it twice a week and it keeps my skin clear and even. I know it sounds crazy, but for 89 cents a box, it's one cheap fix.
