Anyone tried powdered magnesium as a sleep aid? I recently read in Women's Health Mag that 600 milligrams of powdered magnesium before bed helps you sleep better (recommended Natural Vitality's Natural Calm). Although I don't have a problem falling asleep, I get up often and don't get enough sleep. I'm trying to shift my sleep back 15 minutes at a time until I'm sleeping at least 7.5 hours a night (now only get between 6-7 on weeknights). I am hoping this might help make me sleep deeper and keep me from getting up so much. Any reviews or helpful advice on how to accomplish this would be appreciated!

ZMA is excellent for helping you get a really deep sleep! Also check out Valerian root. It calms your body down and really relaxes you. I take the ZMA and it gives me some pretty crazy dreams but I always sleep really well and it makes me feel refreshed when I wake up.

I love my ZMA's they are great.

Valerian root is one to becareful with, this is one that is possible to OD on as it's a mild seditive. It works well however it also reacts with some meds and antihesitmines, also my doc noted that it reacts with my BC (loestrol), making it less effective and the muslce relaxers I take for my back problems (I only take maybe 1 time every 3-6 months) so I stopped taking that and use melatonin (this only works if you have a melatonin defiency).
With V root also if you are diabetic or have liver issues it can cause problems. One of the main usues for V root is for anxiety so if you have problems with that

Thanks for the feedback sweet peach 79 and mloveb! I'm leery of taking valerian but I'd like to give ZMA a try - how many milligrams do you guys take? Do you do it every night or just occassionally? Any side effects?

I take my ZMA's as recommended for women, everynight, it has other benefits other than as a sleep aid supposedli some metabolic effects. ZMAs are just Zinc, Magnesium and B vitmins.
Side effect is having "vivid" dreams. For me at first it made me antsy, I have restless leg syndrome and I got alittle worst , my doc made no direct correlation between it and my increased restlessness it couldve been anything. I'm good now though.
