Ughhh!!! I did a lot of editing when I was an undergrad (gratis, for friends), and it was pretty much the same story. I spent most of my time correcting grammar. It was so, so sad, especially since these students were not composed solely of science/math majors. Even in my upper-level English courses I came across some peer-written papers that were appalling.

I don't care much about grammar or spelling on the internet...but by the time you're in college you should be able to write a coherent, grammatically correct essay!

I wonder if the driving everywhere obsession is because America is so big. Here is joyfully damp (can you tell my winter blues have set in yet? :lol Germany there is very much a walk/cycle/take public transport ethos. Or it could just be me being broke.
