Alright, so in my journal I posted that I am switching to bikini because:
A) I took 6wks off after surgery
B) I really need to bring up my upper body
C) It gives me that chance to get on stage while I am still building
However, after watching some lovely vids posted on YouTube showing contests, and a lovely vid provided by a great friend with an interview of a super smart IFBB judge, I am not sure if I am for the role of bikini.
So, I am stuck in a bind. I don't have the lats to pull off figure, but I don't have the personality and softness for bikini.
What's a girl to do but turn to her friends? Not that I can't make a decision on my own. I just love the democratic process. It gives me something to think about.
If you were standing a poll booth right now, which would you choose for me? Bikini or figure. My last two shows, I placed, but my highest placing is 3rd.
You are so lean right now...maybe you will have to bulk up for bikini...instead of cutting you will need to gain. That is the contest prep of my dreams.

Also do you have fitness model comps in your area? You get to rock a costume AND a bikini and there is a nice medium between the musculature of figure and softness of bikini. It is very personality driven and you got that!

I think you have the body to step on stage for bikini right now...the division is still so new, so at each show the physiques vary.....
But-
If you want to stick with figure then I would take a long time to build the mass necessary to be competitive.....
In my opinion, if you want to get on stage soon..go with bikini or put off your comp plans for a while and build for figure.
Nic, and echoed Nic comments: you have a very valid and logical point. Why am I pushing myself to get on that stage just to be there?
Since I started my dream has waned from being an IFBB pro to just being in the sport because I love doing it.
I am looking at this from an entirely new perspective now, thanks. Perhaps this year doesn't have to be my year. Perhaps I will bring myself up for a later show. No rush, right?

You are so sweet. Ultimately I would love to do sports like trifit. I haven't found any around here, but I will research some more. I KNOW I need to be top notch for that. Those girls are insanely strong.
Thanks for the idea. I will search around for those.
Like I said before, you could step on stage tomorrow. If you like to compete because of the thrill of competing then I'd say go for bikini now.
I agree with Nic, I think it would take some time to really put on the size to be top level figure competitor. But if that is your wishes for competing, then shit, start eating girl!

I'm going to have to disagree with most the girls here, and agree with Booty on this one...I think your body is much better suited for figure, if you have the patience to wait and build for a little while.
However, like the other girls said, if you want to step on stage for the thrill again, then try out bikini. But ultimately I would stick with figure, if I were you!!
Whichever the case, you are beautiful!

After much deliberation, I have decided to stick with figure. It's my home. Even if I don't have the lats to pull off a win, I will some day. Keep on keepin' on.
Thanks for your thoughtful insight. It really means the world to me.

Eat and train hard girl...You will build a winning back!

I can't manage to get my lats to G>>>R>>>O>>>W>>> either.
REALLY HEAVY one-arm rows and close-grip pulldowns did the trick for me...I never went over 6-8 reps and that's what really exploded them the last 6 months
Well, I know one thing for certain: my glutes have no problem overcompensating for my lack of lats haha! They have grown tremendously over the past several months.

Ha! Ditto I never have trouble getting my glutes to grow. I never said grow muscle.... Glad you made your decision. How long do you plan to build?
