On days I train, I take 5g in my post workout shake. On rest days or cardio only days I'll have 5g in the morning with some BCAA's.

I never take time off...I take it year round.
The benefits for me have been strength and muscle mass...I have made the most significant gains since I started taking Creatine.

Some people says it makes them retain water but I have never had a problem. I use just a basic Creatine Monohydrate and drink plenty of water.

Whey Protein, Creatine, BCAA's are a must but I also have to have a pre-workout stim/NO supplement...its not a 'must have' so you dont NEED it, but I like it

Nic, what is the pre-workout stim you take? I have been using Scivation Quake but don't seem to feel the "rush" the way I did the first 3-4 times.

I don't take creatine on its own. I find that beta-alanine works better for my body.

I take a supplement that has creatine, beta-alanine, BCAA, whey, and other amino acids in it. I take it year round except 2 wks out from my contests. I love it! I am an ectomorph and can really see great gains from when I take and when I used to not.

I definitely go through periods of gassiness. That is why I pretty much gave up most supplements. I take my pre workout sup and I take my bed time sup. IF I didn't, I think my kids and hubby would have their own place.
If you are on a very limited budget, what would you say are your "tried and true" staple supplements?
I love the VPX Synthesize or Shotgun. It has all the ingredients mentioned above and I find it works for my body. I used to take Shotgun preworkout and Synthesize post. Now I just take Shotgun. SHotgun has stimulants, so if you are sensitive, then you may want to stick with Synthesize.

KJ-
Help! My head is spinning! What is the supplement you referred to that has the creatine, beta-alanine, BCAA, whey, and other amino acids in it? Was that the VPX Synthesize?
And when are you taking the Shotgun? I would actually like to have a stimulant before my workouts, as I find that Quake just is not cutting it for me. I am just a little nervous about getting "addicted" to it and not being able to workout with out it. What has your experience been like with that?
And can you tell me specifically which supplements you are taking pre-workout and pre-bedtime?
