This is a discussion on Running within the Training Zone forums,----- Hello to all my runners out there

I am thinking about the possibility of running a race but I would definitely need to train for it. I want to get off the treadmill and run in the 'real' element but I don't know how to make sure I am running the right distance.
How do you track the distance of your runs when you are outside?
I use MapMyRun.com - Map your Run, Running Routes. Find Runs Anywhere. Join our Running Community of Runners. Run GPS, GPS, Running Social Network. Google Map Run, Calculate Calories, Online Pedometer, Distance, iPhone, and More. which is fab!

I just base my runs on time. It takes me 11 1/2 to 12 min to run a mile, so I'm now up to 2.5 miles in 30 mins. I try to get up and do my run 3 times a week before work. Fasted and first thing in the morning just works better for me.
As for eating..I'm right there with you girls. Always working on portion control...

I could time it, as I'm not supposed to do more than 30min anyway.
Question: Arent you concerned about building and maintain muscle mass while running fasted?
^^ I was told by my coach that running is too intense for fasted cardio, it could lead to a loss in muscle mass. I would try to get something in your tum before you run.
Hmmm...see we are different..eating before, no problem..I just eat lighter. Eating after..ugghhh, can't do it. That's my hurdle..because post run nutrition is equally as important as pre-run nutrition..so I am trying to get better at eating after.
I would at least eat something light (like a shake) to have your body some fuel to run on. You wouldnt drive a car without gas would ya?
I agree. You wouldn't feel the effects right away, but if done on a regular basis your body will just shut down. You could lose muscle, or be left with metabolic damage - then gain weight and have trouble losing it. Many many problems ( which I know from experience) that's why I always eat before I run, even if it is just fruit and a shake. Now if I can get the same handle on eating after! lol
