Default 5 day split?? 3 day?? HELP!

I'm fairly new to wt lifting and I'm struggling mainly because I am one of those people who has to have something to actually "go by". Like cooking for example, I can't toss in a bit of this and a smidge of that, I have to know EXACTLY how much of everything to put in the recipe or I don't fix it. So, in doing my research I have came across so many different things. I know that it's all individualized, but could you all PLEASE guide me so that I can actually get into some type of routine. I'm afraid that I'm wasting my time, but I'll feel better once I have something down on paper.

Basically, what has worked best for you all? I don't know if I should be doing a 5 day split and working each body part once/week, a 3 day split, 2 upper and 2 lower days, full body workouts???? (This may be similar to another post of mine that I can't find, btw.) What do you all think would give me the BEST results? I want to look like the rest of you SOOOO bad!! Please tell me what has worked best for you. If you need more info, let me know.

Ive done 4, 5 and 6 day splits. i work some of my weaker bodyparts 2x a week.
It depends on what you want to do.
go to bodyforlife.com and try his set up...
I actually did this for a yr and got some results after i took off a yr after running track for almost 20 yrs...
A yr later (after doing bodyforlife) I hired a trainer.
let me know what you think...

For me I love 4 day splits...I think my body responds best to training that way. Find a routine that you want to try and see how it works for you...ya can always change things up if its not a good fit

I do full body workouts four days a week with some cardio, and I do just cardio the other days. I've posted before that I'm not sure if this is the right method for me, but that's what my trainer has me doing. After my comp I'm going to look into a four day split. I know what you mean about having something on paper - I'm the same way... but try not to read so many options that you get confused! Everyone does something different! Pick a plan that sounds good to you and then map it out for yourself and stay with it long enough to see if you're getting results.

I'm still new to this but I'll be glad to be more specific about what I do each day if you think it would help!
