Cardio on leg days

This is a discussion on Cardio on leg days within the Training Zone forums,----- Does anyone do cardio on the same day they lift legs? Right now I never do cardio on leg days, ...

Default Cardio on leg days

Does anyone do cardio on the same day they lift legs? Right now I never do cardio on leg days, but there are some weeks where it would be nice to get a cardio session in on the same day as legs in case I need the extra day off from the gym. But, not at the expense of some quality muscle mass!!

I do...but I have higher cals on leg days, so I've got extra fuel in my body. I try to only do low intensity, but do to my crazy schedule I get the cardio in whenever I can.

Oh good. I usually eat more on leg days as well, so maybe I'll try doing the elliptical afterwards since it's low impact on legs. I'm a bike and treadmill whore, which would kill my legs after an intense workout!

I'll lift upper and do cardio afterwards, but on leg day I don't do cardio. But this week I'll be out of town starting Wednesday, and wanted to do legs tomorrow, but also wanted to get a cardio session in too before I left. I am not a morning person so getting up to do cardio isn't an option, so I'd want to do it after I lift in the evening.

Why not just skip trying to double up and take a jump rope with you?

Im always more awake and refreshed feeling after a short metabolic-type workout in the morning, be it jumping jacks, burpees, a small circuit, jump rope, or preferably a ten -twenty minute jog.

I would tend to agree w/ Viridian.

I'm not a huge morning person either when it comes to the work week, but waking up 15 minutes earlier for a metabolic circuit isn't too tough to pull and will fulfill your "cardio" for the day so you can get in your regular leg day later. Just make sure to get some BCAA's in ya before you do the circuit.

like Nic, i'll usually do about 20 min low intensity elliptical after legs..
another question about leg days. a few mentioned you eat more on leg days, as do i.. Do any of you feel more hungry the Day AFTER? i have found recently that i am hungrier the day after than any other day

That's interesting. I think I'll try doing the elliptical for a little while tomorrow night, and just eat a little bit more. Yay!!

You'll get a different answer from every 'expert' thats why you have to find what works for you! Just like the people that act like its illegal to eat fruit or....dum, dum, dum....CARBS at night!!!!!!

I usually do sprint intervals after my leg workouts, I LOVE it. Im not as fast as I normally would be, but woo, it gets the job done. If there was a place to do it in my gym, Id do sprints inbetween sets and sacrific the weight a little bit, but unfortunately, there's not. My quads are plenty huge and my hammies have grown quite a bit in the last year... Im not having growth problems from my sprinting addiction

What time do you do your leg day? I used to have to have my higher cals starting from:
hi cal pre-workout meal/snack,
workout,
protein drink,
hi-cal dinner,
[COLOR=red]next morning..[/COLOR]
then hi-cal breakfast,
& med-cal lunch

So basically I scheduled in my higher calories around the time I worked out, not on the usual day hours. Just a suggestion.

I always lift in the evenings... around 7pm. I'm still learning about the "science" of when you need to eat and how much.
