Default Long Periods?

I have read that many girls either don't get periods or they are very light. I suffer from extremely long periods and don't know anyone else who does. This has gone on since my second child.

A couple of years ago I talked with my doc about it. She gave me every test under the sun and even did a trans-vag ultrasound. Nothing came back abnormal. Basically I was told to deal with it.

I think my IUD has something to do with it, but I don't know anyone else with an IUD that has this trouble. I don't want to get it out just to see if my period regulates itself. My husband refuses to get fixed and I will not take any type of hormonal BC.

To give you an idea of what I go through... Last month my period started on the 10th and lasted through the 26th. It started again today. So that is 12 days in two months that I wasn't bleeding, and only seven days before I started PMSing again after my last period.

Can anyone identify with this or know someone who has this issues? I am so frustrated.

When I was talking to my doc about IUD's I am almost positive they cause some people to have heavier, longer periods. Hmm

I have a copper one.

K3- I read that as well, but hoped it would subside. The crazy thing is, the closer I get to comp dates, the worse it gets. Like lower bf= longer periods.

Okay, next question... How do I convince husband to snipsnip so I can get it out!? Ugh!

Explain to him how awful your periods have gotten and that unless he wants you to suffer, or foot the bill of anothr child, he may want to consider taking action.

I was having similar issues...then started passing clots and having my period every 2 weeks.
Finally had an ablation done 6 year ago...best thing I ever did. LOVE it!

I had a friend that I used to work with who had an IUD and her periods were HEAVY for a LONG time. We worked in a restaurant, and she would literally have to bathroom break every half hour in order to change her tampon. After about three months of this, she had the IUD taken out, and the periods subsided.

So what is this vs. tubes tied? You still ovulate? See that is my thing. I need to ovulate... otherwise, well. You know. I just need to ovulate in order to have a good time LOL.

Oooh, just read about tubal ligation. Not going there. Side effect: heavy, irregular menstrual cycle..
