Straight Talk: The Scale of Things
by Teri LaFaye
I’ve always thought the scale is over weighted (pun intended).
Seems the measuring tape is, and always will be, my best choice of measuring my accomplishments. Scale umbers are just that — numbers.
Women especially get caught up in the scale of things and overlook how they feel, how their clothes fit, and their muscle tone. They tend to think that if the scale doesn’t reflect a 105 or 110, it means they’re not “fit.”
That’s bull! My weight runs anywhere from 126 to 132 pounds; and I’m certainly not fat and very fit. One doesn’t have to look shredded to the bone to be fit. I go by how my clothes fit and how I feel.

Clothes fit loose? Who cares how much you weigh?!
When I first started working out, my intent was to lose weight. I created a plan of action for myself to implement. Now, four years later, I’m still working my plan and planning my strategy for the next transformation. When I lost the weight I wanted to lose, the intent became to improve overall muscle tone. I look around and see people half my age with terrible eating habits, no plan to improve, and no desire to change.
The contentment of their discontentment causes irritability, stress, insomnia, not to mention overall negativity (never mind making everyone around them miserable in the process). We all know people like that; we may even have been one of those people at one time. But my point is, change is there… for the asking, for the taking, for the incredible life you can get back and call your own!
Our World of Quick Fixes
In today’s world, no one wants to work for what they want. They’d rather sit on their butts and complain about what they don’t have, instead of reaping the results of what they could have if they chose to change their bad habits and replace them with good habits.
Like my father used to say, “Excuses are like rear ends, everyone has one and the all stink!”
If you aren’t happy with the results you’re getting, stop making excuses, change your plan, and go in another angle. Results are there and waiting for us to take hold of, but we have to be willing to work for those results.

It's all worth it!
In the end, the scale is balanced and the controlling numbers will be the longevity of being fit at any age. I’m living proof that change is possible! And when weighing all that in the balance of things, I would go as far to say, fifty is looking better and better on the horizon for me!
I can tell people over and over how I’ve achieved my results, but sometimes tough love (even, or especially) with ourselves it the greatest gift we can give ourselves.
