Fat Loss Detour

Nia Shanks has designed a program (named Fat Loss Detour) so unique from all of its counterparts, that the attention it’s receiving has been overwhelming — and all before it’s even released!

She’s gotten quite a few questions regarding her greatly anticipated program, and we’ve decided to publish her responses to some of these questions right here on the site, for all to see.

If you have questions of your own, please post them in the comments section beneath the article; Nia will be sure to address them.

  • How is your program different from the million others on the market?

For one thing, I actually train people! So many other programs are created by those who’ve never trained a single person; it’s really a shame. I’ve tried various methods of training and different dieting approaches with hundreds of women, and learned what produced the best results for myself and my female clients.

Another thing about this program is in its approach. Fat Loss Detour is just that – a detour. You’re going to get great fat loss results, but you aren’t going to be training directly for fat loss; you’ll take a different, more effective route.

Instead of being motivated by negative thoughts, you’ll be driven by positive motivation, resulting in excitement and positive energy that’ll add to your desire to hit the gym!

Furthermore, Fat Loss Detour was designed to revolve around your life. This isn’t a program that requires your life to revolve around it. You’ll have several options when it comes to performing the workouts, and options with nutrition, as well.

Most programs are set in stone, and it’s either all or nothing. That approach doesn’t work for everyone, and Fat Loss Detour was created with flexibility in mind.

Yet another difference between Fat Loss Detour and other programs is in all of its components. It not only contains a 16 Week Body and Mind Transformation Program, but also a detailed warm-up, consisting of mobility and corrective exercises that’ll allow you to get the most out of the workouts. This was created by the one and only Mike Robertson, and he did an amazing job.

It's not all about looks; mobility's too often overlooked. Not here!

There’s also a Motivation Guide. So many programs focus solely on changing the body while neglecting the mind. The Motivation Guide will supply you with information to change and strengthen your mind and give you the tools you need to succeed on your transformation journey.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot! There’s also a detailed Exercise Index that tells you how to perform every exercise correctly. Most people simply don’t perform certain exercises properly (even something as basic as a push-up), never getting the greatest results possible. With the Exercise Index, you’ll know exactly how to do every exercise properly.

Finally, things are kept as simple as possible here, especially when it comes to nutrition, which is very flexible and couldn’t be easier to implement. You won’t even have to eat 5-6 meals a day unless you want to!

You can use any eating pattern and still get incredible results, you’ll see how and why in the manual.

  • What about your workout routines is different?

The workout program consists of upper and lower body splits. I discovered with myself and my female clients that total body workouts became too much after a period of time.

For instance, if they started the workout with squats, they would be fatigued when it was time to do the upper body exercises, and therefore they couldn’t push as hard. Using the splits found in this program will keep this from happening so you’re fresh each day and can put 100% into each exercise without being fatigued.

Most workout programs for women use isolation exercises, machines, or just bad exercises in general. With Fat Loss Detour, you’ll use only the best exercises that will transform your body in the least amount of time, while allowing you to develop strength.

Don’t let that word “strength” scare you. It shouldn’t; women can get strong, and it’s time they realize their potential. Plus, you’ll develop a better, sexier, leaner physique in the process.

There are also exercises in the program that promote shoulder health, which most workouts completely neglect. In addition, there are many exercises that really help develop the posterior chain (hamstrings, glutes, and lower back) since this is a “trouble spot” for many women — one that’s usually neglected in most workouts.

Finally, if you hate cardio, Fat Loss Detour is for you! You’ll use Fat Burning Components, instead. These are performed at the end of the strength training workouts or on off days. They don’t take long to complete, maybe 10 to 20 minutes maximum, but they’re extremely effective for burning fat and improving conditioning.

Fat Loss Detour is about getting more results in less time, stress-free. The workouts and nutrition are very flexible, so you can revolve them around your life.

What do you believe about dieting that most other coaches would disagree with?

I strongly believe that any eating pattern will promote fat loss and overall health (eating 5-6 small meals, eating 3 meals, etc) as long as the proper nutrition principles are followed.

Most people think they have to eat 5-6 small meals daily because that’s what popular diets promote. Well if you enjoy eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day, then do it. But if that’s a pain in the ass for you (as it is for me) then don’t do it! And that’s how I’m different.

If eating 6 meals a day isn't making you happy, don't do it!

I also hate counting calories, and I’ve found that oftentimes, it can lead to obsessive compulsive eating, and possibly other types of eating disorders. It did for me, and for some of my female clients as well. I’ll never count calories again because it would cause me to spiral back into the eating disorder.

Following the right nutrition principles eliminates the need to count calories for fat loss. I understand that some people may prefer other nutrition methods, and that’s why I give them choices. No two people are exactly alike and may not want to do the same thing!

One other thing: I don’t believe in “cheat meals.” That term just promotes negative thinking. If you’re having a “cheat meal,” then it sounds like you’re doing something wrong that you should feel guilty about.

Instead of looking at a meal as a “cheat” or even a “reward,” I simply encourage people to have a meal or two a week that consists of whatever they want that doesn’t necessary meet the nutrition guidelines. There’s nothing “cheating” or “rewarding” about these meals. You simply aren’t being overly restrictive.

If people constantly look at some foods as a “cheat,” they begin to develop other negative thoughts and images toward that food. That’s terrible, in my opinion. This also happens when people restrict their favorite foods for an extended period of time. They usually end up binging on these foods.

So, if you follow the simple nutrition principles every day, and one night decide you want some pizza, then eat the darn pizza and enjoy it. Do not think you’re “cheating” or “rewarding” yourself for “following the rules.”

Why do you think most women have a hard time staying in shape year-round?

Simple: Because they follow excessively strict rules and limitations. For instance, some people avoid certain foods altogether, like grains and favorite desserts.

After restricting their favorite foods for an extended period of time, they usually end up overeating these foods at some point. This sometimes leads to them throwing in the towel altogether.

They may no longer care about eating healthy for a period of time because they’re so burned out. I’ve seen this happen many times.

Women also put unrealistic expectations on themselves. They see images of what society deems to be the “ideal feminine physique” and that’s all they focus on. Once again, this leads to negative thoughts, self-defeating habits, and burn out. You need to focus on being the best you that you can be; not transforming yourself into another person.

One last thing – many people have very strict rules they can only follow for a period of time. They “have” to workout X times per week, and they “have” to eat certain foods and avoid others. I mean, very few people can follow those very strict guidelines for an extended period of time without getting overwhelmed.

The result of excessive, overly limiting training.

That’s why Fat Loss Detour was created. It provides simple nutrition principles that you can maintain long term while getting fast results. The workouts are designed to get you in and out of the gym with plenty of time to enjoy those results out in the world. Keeping things simple allows for long-term maintenance of your new physique.

The Bottom Line

Unlike some people who create fat loss programs that end up promoting different types of eating disorders, I’ve experienced the dark side of them. I developed an eating disorder and ended up hating everything about my life. All I could think about was working out to lose fat and what foods I should and shouldn’t eat.

Every day of my life revolved around those thoughts, to a point where I felt like I was going crazy. Fat Loss Detour will help women get the results they want, but in a way that promotes positive habits, not negative ones.

There’s more to life than stress about eating and working out. Fat Loss Detour will get you results in the simplest and most enjoyable way possible.

    Sounds interesting, thanks Nia

  5. Kim says:

In this thing, are you detailing a list of “clean” foods? Or is it macro based?

  6. Nia Shanks says:

    Kim-

I do provide examples of foods, but I don’t use the term “clean” just like I don’t use the words “cheat” or “reward” meals.

The nutrition section isn’t macro based either. The principles are truly simple, but they are very effective.

I provide some simple guidelines and then you fit them into your life.

I don’t tell you to eat X times per day, or to eat a percentage of each macronutrient. You just get simple, but highly effective nutrition principles.

However, I also provide alternatives for people who want more detailed nutrition information.

One of my main goals with this program was to keep nutrition simple so it doesn’t promote obsessive compulsive eating habits.

    Does that help?

    Thanks, Kim!

  7. Kim says:

Absolutely. I would love to get over the mentality of having “cheats” and learning how to just incorporate treats like that into life without any problems…. rather than obsessing!

  8. Nia Shanks says:

    Kim-

Absolutely. That is one of my main points in the nutrition section of Fat Loss Detour.

Whenever some says they are going to “cheat”, they usually say it in a guilty way.

Enjoying food should not make us feel guilty . . .

    Thanks again!

  9. Nicole says:

I would love to one day have this approach…instead of ‘clean’, cheats’ ect…Food shouldnt be so difficult!

  10. Nia Shanks says:

    Nicole-

I completely agree! I used to have that mindset myself and would have a “cheat meal” once or twice a week.

I found that to be too negative for myself, and I never truly enjoyed those “cheat” meals because I thought I was doing something wrong.

    Thanks!!

  11. Mynxie says:

  12. Bootybootybooty says:

I am in agreement with the negative connotation of “cheat”
